Picture Book Play
Hola! I’m Suzannah.
I’m a wife, mum and early years educator passionate about picture books.
What is Picture Book Play? Well, simply put, it is taking a good quality picture book and extending concepts in that book through hands on, creative and play based activities.
Reading is such a fantastic tool for learning about our world. Picture books add another dimension to the reading experience for growing minds. When activities are inspired by concepts found in a book, our knowledge and memory of that experience deepens. And not just literacy based activities such as retelling, vocab studies and writing. Picture books can teach growing minds so much more!
My favourite subjects in primary school were STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). My husband also loves these subjects and builds robots in his downtime. So it’s no surprise that you’ll often find us doing a science experiment, tinkering with a robot or getting creative with our little amigos. Where possible, we combine this great learning with a book to make it meaningful and rooted in their memory.
Here at Two Little Amigos, you’ll find inspiration, systems and resources for engaging, authentic and hands on picture book play, with an emphasis on all things creative.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6 KJV
